October 5th Work Detail
Multiple teams completed much needed projects this weekend. Both decks were power-washed ahead of time then stained & sealed. Thanks to our members who took on this challenge and thanks to the one member who generously donated the funds for the stain!
And while the decks were being stained.....
A second team did some demo work then installed the new French doors on the front side of the building. We appreciate the work that these skilled members provided and now we can see out of the windows again!

On the 3rd and 4th of May 2025, new and seasoned Team 5-1 members took out to the rainy woods at TEAM HQ for a weekend of training.
On Saturday, May 3rd, both new and old team members met at Team Headquarters where we introduced our plan for the weekend and gave a little history of the team to new members.
Following the introduction, members broke up into groups. New members doing the basic map and compass course inside with crew boss/assistant. Training Officers Jacques Parent and Lew Decker.
Outside more crew bosses were working with the second-year members on the advanced map and compass course. Already trained members who wanted to practice their map and compass skills were encouraged to take part out on the course again.
Training Officer: Lance Elliott set up a CalTopo course for members who had already trained with the app this winter (in Rockwood forest). Members went out into the woods to locate three way points successfully.
Following lunch, new members took to the B-line course and practiced map and compass over long distances. All members were successful navigating along a straight line though the woods.
On Sunday May the 4th, the team started the day with CalTopo training in the classroom. This was followed by practice in the field with members using their phones and the CalTopo app. We must stay on top of the new tech!
After lunch, members split up into teams and performed a mock search for missing outdoorsman, Luke Skywalker.
This was followed by a brief team meeting and then a group of members traveled up to Benson to present John Washburn‘s wife, Jane, a memorial plaque for her husband John, to be placed near his gravestone.
